HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville, Martin County advance to title game

Pikeville used a big third quarter to pull away from pesky Prestonsburg, reaching the 15th Region All “A” Classic championship game with  54-43 win at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Thursday night.
Eli Johnson paced the Panthers with 18 points and Heath Jarrell followed with 12. Charlie Fitzer added a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 16 boards.

Prestonsburg’s Braxton Keathley led all scorers with 28 points.

Martin County pulled away from Betsy Layne in the second half and the defending 15th Region All “A” Classic champions punched their ticket to the title game with a 94-72 win in a game played at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Thursday night.
Brayden McKenzie paced the Cardinals with 28 points and Luke Hale finished with 22. Jacob Sturgill added 17 and Peyton Davis tosse4d in 12. 

Betsy Layne’s Andrew Kidd fired in a game-high 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Tanner Hall finished with 13.

At Pikeville

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville, Prestonsburg advance in All ‘A’ Classic

Pikeville jumped out to a big lead early against Belfry and the Panthers went on to score a 77-35 win in the quarterfinals of the 15th Region All “A” Classic matchup played at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Thursday night.

Cole Slone came off the bench and scored 17 points while Heath Jarrell and Charlie Fitzer followed with 11 each, all coming in the first half. Carter Hurley tallied 10 and Kade Belcher grabbed 10 rebounds.

Zade Rash paced the Pirates with 16 points and Bryce Hagy net nine.

Prestonsburg survived a furious late comeback by Paintsville to escape with a thrilling 65-64 win in the nightcap of the 15th Region All “A” Classic game at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Thursday.

Braxton Keathley led all scorers with 31 points in the win. Connor Napier net 12 and Mason Stidham added 11.

Brock Woods finished with 21 for the Tigers. Anderson Lauffer tossed in 16 and Ethan Cole tallied 15.
