HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Panthers reach first-ever tourney title game

The Pikeville Lady Panthers will play for  the school’s first-ever All “A” Classic state basketball tournament championship after knocking off Owensboro Catholic, 59-52, in the semifinals played at Corbin Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Pikeville, now 16-2, will face Covington Holy Cross at Noon on Sunday.

Kyera Thornsbury finished with a game-high 18 points and Trinity Rowe added a double-double, scoring 14 points while dishing out 11 assists.

Leighan Jackson tossed in 11 points and Rylee Theiss grabbed eight rebounds.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Shooting woes sink Pikeville in Elite 8

Pikeville guard Heath Jarrell’s ankle injury just 30 second into the game was a sign of things to come for the Panthers.

Evangel Christian used its size advantage and speed to knock off the Panthers, 52-37, in the All “A” Classic Elite 8 game played at Corbin Arena late Friday night.

Pikeville, now 11-4, struggled offensively for the second straight game.

Charlie Fitzer paced the Panthers with 14 points and Carter Hurley followed with eight.
