PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The former mayor of Prestonsburg was arrested Monday for driving under the influence. Prestonsburg Police received a call just after 11 a.m., reporting a reckless driver on University Drive. Police were told the vehicle was swerving and pulled into the Food City parking lot, running up on the sidewalk as it did so. Prestonsburg Police Det. Dennis Hutchinson found the vehicle parked in the fire lane next to the supermarket, still running with former Mayor Jerry Fannin, 69, of Prestonsburg, sitting the driver’s seat. FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear has launched a new program aimed at eliminating $250 million in medical debt for more than 130,000 Kentuckians. Beshear signed an executive order Tuesday establishing the Team Kentucky Medical Debt Relief Program. The initiative directs $2.5 million to Undue Medical Debt, a national nonprofit that purchases medical debt from participating hospitals and collection agencies and then forgives it. FRANKFORT, Ky. — A Kentucky lawmaker is proposing legislation that would clarify that artificial intelligence cannot be considered a person under state law or used as a defense against criminal responsibility.
