Power outages grow, as winter storm continues
Snow and ice began taking their toll Sunday morning, resulting in power outages around the region. As of 10:30 a.m., Kentucky Power was reporting more than 2,600 customers without power. That number was up more than 2,000 from earlier in the day. Perry County had the most, with 852 customers without power, followed by Lawrence County with 573, and 531 in Pike. Appalachian Power was reporting more than 15,000 customers without power, including more than 8,000 in West Virginia and nearly 7,000 in Virginia. Pikeville man arrested after police say he entered a downtown business, harassed employees
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville man was arrested after police say he got drunk and then left work to drop in at another nearby business where he allegedly harassed female employees and threw a glass of beer at one employee’s husband. Jacob Fletcher, 32, of Pikeville, was taken into custody at Pinch Aesthetics by Pikeville Police Department officers just before 6 p.m. Thursday evening. According to the arrest citation, police were called to Pinch Aesthetics about an intoxicated male inside the business. Former USP Big Sandy inmate charged with assaulting corrections officers
ASHLAND, Ky. — A federal inmate at the Big Sandy federal prison has been indicted for three counts of assaulting correctional officers at the prison. Daviian Dwane Roberts, 35, who is now serving a 12.5-year sentence on federal weapons charges in the federal supermax prison in Florence, Col., is accused of assaulting three corrections officers with a weapon last March. The charges could add up to 20 years to his sentence. No hearings have yet been set in the case.
