Alison Krauss bringing tour to Pikeville in May
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Traditional music lovers can look forward to seeing one of the biggest acts in the genre, as 27-time Grammy winner Alison Krauss and Union Station are coming to Pikeville next year. The Appalachian Wireless Arena will host Krauss and company on May 23, as part of the band’s 70-stop Arcadia tour with special guest Theo Lawrence. The tour comes on the heels of the group’s eighth studio album, also called Arcadia, which is their first in 14 years. The Alice Lloyd College volleyball team just wrapped up what might honestly be the best season the program has ever seen. This wasn’t just a good year. The Martin County Cardinals put together a huge weekend at the Hawks Nest, picking up two dominant wins over Perry Central and Oneida Baptist Institute in the D.J. Begley Boys Basketball Classic. On Friday, the Cards rolled past Perry Central 80-54.Braxton Keathley put on a show with a massive double double, dropping 34 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.Right behind him was Bryson Dials, who lit it up for 33 points of his own. Pike man pleads guilty to threatening judge-exec
ASHLAND, Ky. — A Pike County man has pleaded guilty to a federal charge for threatening Judge-Executive Ray Jones over social media. Ronald Ferguson Jr., of Elkhorn City, made several posts on Facebook threatening to kill or injure Jones in February. In his signed plea agreement, Ferguson admitted making Facebook videos vowing to “hunt” Jones down and threatening to shoot him on the courthouse steps. Ferguson will face up to five years in prison when he is sentenced March 16.

Man on suspended sentence arrested after parole officers find drugs, gun in his home
BELFRY, Ky. — A routine home visit from the Division of Probation and Parole ended up sending a Belfry man to jail facing drug trafficking and other charges. Kentucky State Police was called to the home of Frankie Myers Jr., 47, of Belfry, Friday afternoon, after parole officers reported finding drugs and guns at his home. After police arrived and searched the home, they seized 16 grams of meth, six grams of fentanyl and a gram of heroin, along with scales, plastic bags, pipes and a rifle.
