Louisa woman charged with child abuse, endangerment

Virginia Lynn FernowLOUISA, Ky. — A Lawrence County woman is facing child abuse charges, after police conducted a welfare check at her home. The Louisa Police Department went to the home of Virginia Lynn Fernow, 26, to check on her children, ages 2 and 4. When they made contact with Fernow, they described smelling a foul odor coming from inside the home, but she spoke with officers on her front porch. She told them that her 2-year-old daughter had burned her back on a heater, but she didn’t take the girl to the doctor, instead putting diaper rash cream on the burn. […]

PSC to be in Pikeville Thursday to get public input on Ky. Power’s request for a rate hike

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Public Service Commission will be in Pikeville this week to get local residents’ thoughts on Kentucky Power’s latest request for a rate increase. The utility is asking for a 15 percent rate hike, which would raise the average residential bill 28-dollars. This week’s hearing will take place Thursday at the Pike County Library on Lee Avenue in Pikeville, beginning at 5 p.m. The PSC will conduct additional hearings at the Perry County Courthouse in Hazard on Dec. 18 and the Ashland Transportation Center on Jan. 8.
